The original purpose of Jyotish is that it serves as the greatest life management tool. It reveals the right path of actions for healing, happiness, and success.
In the birth chart, the Lagna, or Ascendant, is the 1st house, representing the horizon where the Sky and the Earth meet. Therefore, the Lagna governs your life. It is the instant in the sky when you take birth.
The Lagna is where the soul (the Sky element – Paramatma) gets manifested as your body and “to be learned mind” (the Earth element – Jeeva). Hence, the birth is the divine intersection of the soul with the body in a mother’s womb.
Suppose New Delhi is your birthplace. The rising Rashi sign in the Eastern horizon, as viewed from New Delhi at the instant of your birth, will occupy the first house. The lord of that rashi is your Lagna lord – a planet that is going to govern your whole life as a mentor.
Basically, these are the preliminary conditions set by nature for you to experience and fulfil your karma. This is why birth happens at a precise instant of time.
Your Sanchita Karma will decide this precise instant as its direct function. Hence, life becomes Prarabdha.
Therefore, the Lagna is your basic life, your personality, and the tendencies associated with you. This is how you will live your life.
