Kriyamana Karma: Types of Karma in Vedic Astrology

Kriyamana Karma in Vedic Astrology

Kriyamana karma is the present thoughts, intentions, decisions, words and actions. It also goes by Agami Karma, the “being done” karma, whose actions will become good or bad Sanchita Karma.

It is the free will one can exercise on one’s own discretion.

Therefore, one must always be conscious of their thoughts and actions. Nitya Karma, or positive, dharmic Kriyamana karma, generates uplifting Agami karma and will make good Sanchita.

Whereas Nishiddha Karma, or negative, adharmic choices, sow future pain as it will result in bad Sanchita, eventually, a very difficult Prarabdha.

Understanding Kriyamana Karma: The Free Will

Kriyamana karma, created now, can either join Prarabdha and bear fruit in this life or merge into Sanchita and manifest in future births. This happens as per the degree of present actions.

Therefore, choose dharmasangat Kriyamana karma, truthfulness, compassion, disciplined living, and sincere remedies. This gradually lightens the Sanchita stock and softens the way Prarabdha is experienced.

In this sense, Kriyamana karma in Vedic astrology is your steering wheel: Prarabdha gives the road, but your present driving decides whether it becomes suffering or a growth path.

Free Will in Vedic Astrology: Jyotish View

Jyotish treats Kriyamana karma as your living response to the chart. The horoscope shows tendencies and likely situations, but not your inner choice in each moment. Although sometimes Prarabdha decides how you make a certain choice.

In such a case, purushartha, sadhana and mantra-jap work best as practical remedies.

Additionally, when you apply practical remedies like mantra, charity, seva, vrata, Nitya karma, and consciously act in alignment with dharma, you use Kriyamana karma to harmonise difficult combinations rather than fight them.

Therefore, Kriyamana karma is where your real spiritual power lies.

By transforming your present actions, you gradually write a better karmic future, even while you honour and accept the Prarabdha given for this birth.
