What is Prarabdha Karma in Vedic Astrology?
In Hinduism, Prarabdha karma is the portion of Sanchita karma that has “begun to bear fruit” in this lifetime. It is like an arrow already released: once it leaves the bow, it must travel its course.
Prarabdha is the karmic selection that decides your birth location, time, family, basic bodily features, lifespan and key turning points in life.

Therefore, Prarabdha karma in Vedic astrology is the karmic framework visible in your kundli at the moment of birth. It shows the specific karmic seeds chosen to sprout in the present life. Hence, two people with similar efforts can have very different life circumstances: their Prarabdha palettes are different.
Accepting Prarabdha Karma: Path to Peace and Liberation
An individual must accept the Prarabdha or the destiny. It is the quality of life or the specific effects on your actions, as chosen by Paramatma.
Additionally, you can say that this is how Niyati will affect you in the present life. The time of birth and especially the Moon (thought-process) with other planets are described as the first clear landmarks of Prarabdha in the horoscope.
Accepting the Prarabdha is the first step towards inner happiness, and then working intelligently with effort (Purushartha) and prayer. Moreover, worrying only increases the suffering, and that one who lives and acts in a balanced way, accepting Prarabdha, gains “spells of bliss.”
What to do with Prarabdha? Jyotish View
The present life is the result of the Prarabdha, purushartha, and prayer from the previous life. Hence, it must be accepted as it is.
Intelligent individuals who accept the Prarabdha acknowledge the essence and significance of their destiny. They see problems as a source of learning and boons as an opportunity for wisdom.
Here, Kriyamana Karma, specifically the Nitya Karma, like prayers, puja, havan, and spiritual disciplines, helps. They do not nullify Prarabdha but can soften its harshest expressions and give strength to endure it.
Extreme, hard work or purushartha, Sadhana, like daily recitation of Vishnu Sahasranamam or Shri Ganapati Atharvashirsha, may help to resolve some Prarabdha and achieve inner happiness.
